Learn to Play

Start your ice hockey career with one of the most successful Learn to Play  Ice Hockey programmes in the UK! With a pathway into the Swindon Wildcats Ice Hockey Academy for juniors and into recreational hockey teams for adults this is the first step of your ice hockey journey.

Junior Learn to Play

Junior Learn to play sessions are on every Friday night at 6:15pm for one hour for ages 4 to 15 years, these sessions all year round and are scheduled even on bank holidays and in the school holidays. The session costs £7 and there is an additional £3 for equipment hire if required, this includes a Helmet, skates, stick and gloves. We advise that participants have been on the ice at least once before their first session however no experience is required to sign up and start playing. The sessions are coaches by experienced Swindon Wildcat Community staff and there are often Swindon Wildcat players on the ice along with academy volunteers to help inspire and encourage players of all abilities.

FAQ

Can we bring our own equipment?

We encourage players to bring their own equipment if it meets the safety standards required for the session. Gloves must be ice hockey gloves with sufficient padding, the helmet must be designed for ice hockey and must include a protective cage, skates should be comfortable and the correct size. A water bottle is strongly encouraged.

What time should we arrive?

The session starts at 6:15pm but we suggest getting to the Better Link Centre at around 5:45pm to register and fit equipment so that you’re ready to play and get the whole hour on the ice.

Where do we register?

Head into Wildcat Sports which is located near to the Better Link Centre main reception and Ice Rink entrance. In Wildcat Sports there will be community staff who can register your young player. We will collect information relevant to the person playing as well as the best contact details so that we can notify you if the sessions are cancelled and can contact you to invite your child to the Swindon Wildctas Ice Hockey Academy.

Do I have to sign up to come every week?

We want to see your young player learn and develop every week however we understand that to make every session is a lot to ask. Our sessions are pay as you play so if you miss a week you don’t lose any money.

Adults Learn to Play

Please note: Adult Learn To Play is running Tuesdays 11:15pm
