The Swindon Wildcats secure the one point across both games this weekend with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Berkshire Bess and a 4-2 loss in Leeds to the Knights.
Saturday 1st Feb: Wildcats Vs Bees
The Wildcats took the early lead with some lovely play by Tomasz Malasinski who skated around the whole zone and fed it to Aaron Nell in the slot who buried it past Wright at 4:14. The Bees got a Powerplay opportunity and took full advantage with Ralfs Circenis slapshotting the puck straight through Renny Marr and into the back of the net.
After a goalless second period and good penalty killing from both teams it came down to the final period. The Bees got another power-play and Will Stead jumped onto a rebound and banked it off the back of Marr and over the line at 43:00. With just under ten minutes to go, Ryan Wells flew into the zone and fired it low past Max Wright at 50:16. However just 20 seconds later all momentum was killed with Gabaj finding some space and firing it past Marr to regain the lead again. With time running out Malasinski stepped up and scored a bit backhand goal to tie it up at three and send it to overtime. The Wildcats had a chance but the puck got turned over and Liam Morris went backhand past Marr to give the Bees the extra point.
End of the game: Wildcats 3-4 (OT) Bees
Sunday 2nd Feb: Knights Vs Wildcats
The first period saw the Wildcats have plenty of chances but just couldn’t find the finishing touches with Sam Gospel making some great saves for Leeds. Then in the second period the deadlock was broken with a calm backhand finish through the legs of Gospel from Tomasz Malasinski at 23:14. But the Knights hit straight back with a bit of brilliant from Brown who fired or low past Marr at 23:33. The Knights then got a powerplay opportunity and a rebound found it’s way to Barron who tapped it into the net at 28:31. They then extended their lead to two with Mac Howlett finding space and firing it into the top corner at 32:24.
The Wildcats threw everything at it in the third period and got a goal back through Reed Sayers who latched onto a rebound to tap it into the net at 45:57. Gospel made some great saves to stop the Cats equalising and it would be Jordan Buesa who scored the empty net goal to cap off the game.
Finals score: Knights 4-2 Wildcats
The Cats have just the one game next weekend and need all your support against the Solway Sharks.
