The huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the October "Bowling with the Wildcats" event. It was another great evening with twelve lanes of Supporters and twelve Wildcats.
Apologies for the slight delay in the scores, I know the evening starts off as an enjoyable night of bowling with our favourite players but about half way through a little switch seems to get flicked and a little bit of competition starts to creep in. There is always a lot of interest in who were the winners.
And so to the scores, the winning team was lane 12 with a huge score of 1,236 over the two games. A superb effort and congratulations to Colin Armstrong, Tony Felsted, Harrison Heath, Alex Ramsay, Fraser Ramsay and their Wildcat, Tyler Plews. A very consistent set of scores across the team and one very significant score, but more of that later.
Second was lane 10 who were only 4 points behind with 1,232. Well done to Ed Demster, Rowan Dempster, Ellis Demster, Daniele Macfarlane, Adam Whitehouse and their Wildcat, Josh Shaw. A great team effort with four of the six bowlers scoring over 200 points for the two games. Alas, Josh Shaw wasn't one of them! Third was lane 7 with 1,212 points. The wooden spoon, always a much anticipated score, went to lane 1 with 869 points.
An honourable mention goes to Jake Goodwin with the best score overall for the evening with 297. If you were wondering how on earth you score 297, you will need at least 5 strikes and 7 spares which Jake achieved. This is one of the highest individual scores we have ever had.
And now to the Wildcats. For those who passed by lanes 7 and 8 during the evening they would have witnessed a steadily increasing competition between Ryan Wells and Tyler Watkins. Tyler rolled out the mind games halfway through game 1 and it all started to get interesting. Before we get to the best, and worst Wildcat, I can report that bragging rights in the battle of lanes 7 and 8 went to Tyler with 228 against Ryan's 166. And so to the highest scoring Wildcat. This year that honour goes to Tyler Plews with a superb score of 264. Well done Plewsey. Last year Aaron Nell took the award with a score of 258 and 264 is one of the highest Wildcat scores ever.
And that brings us to the Jamie Smith award for the lowest scoring Wildcat. For those new to bowling, the name of the award reflects the lowest scoring Wildcat from the previous bowling event. Jamie has had to wear the shame of this over the summer but the big question is, will it be renamed? But before that, it saddens me to report a very serious offence that occurred during the evening. There is only one rule that has been consistently applied to Wildcats bowling. That rule is, Wildcats don't bowl with the bumpers up. On Tuesday night, it pains me to report that one of our Wildcats took it upon himself to bowl with the bumpers up. Glenn Billing was very quick to point out the infringement and I thank him. This sort of thing, if left unchecked, will only lead to tears. Dylan Lipsey, you are young, it is not too late to turn away from the dark side. Never ever bowl with the bumpers up, not even for fun!
Those wildcats who witnessed this affront, immediately called for a disqualification but it was not necessary, With a score of 131 you reclaim the Dylan Lipsey award from Jamie Smith. The next bowling event is in February, there is still time to get some practice in, with the bumpers down.
Thanks to Melanie Beckett for all her organising and thanks again to everyone who took part.
