It has been a fantastic playoff campaign so far for the Cats winning all six group games which sees them book a semi-final spot at Coventry against the Peterborough Phantoms.
On Saturday night the Cats needed just a win against the Romford Raiders to finish top of their group. That is exactly what Aaron Nell and the team did beating the Raiders 6-2 on the night.
Then in what was a dead rubber game on the Sunday saw the Cats win on penalty shots in Romford meaning they are the only team to win all six playoff games going into the big weekend at Coventry.
Saturday night match report:
It would be the Raiders who scored the opening goal with Shaun Miller firing it off the back of Renny Marr and into the net. However it was a quick response with coach Aaron Nell leading by example and slotting home a rebound leaving it tied going into the second.
It was then a quick start to the second with Jake Bricknell firing it on net for Chris Jones to tip it past Owen Rider in the Romford net. Just a minute and a half later, Nell jumped on the loose puck and fired it past Rider which got the Link Centre rocking. Just before the half way mark of the game, the Cats made it three with a lovely team goal finished off by Reed Sayers at the back door. The goals didn’t stop there as Tomasz Malasinski got send away one on one and slotted it through the legs of Rider to make it a 5-1 game.
The Raiders got one back on the powerplay through Reed Morison but the comeback was short lived as Bricknell scored an absolute thunderclap into the top corner which erupted the Link Centre as the Wildcats booked their spot At Coventry.
The Wildcats will face the Phantoms next Saturday at 1:30pm in the semi-finals as they look to win the playoffs for the first time in their history.
