Swindon Wildcats confirmed third successive four-point weekend by beating Basingstoke Bison away from home in National League
A THIRD successive four-point weekend for Swindon Wildcats was confirmed tonight after Basingstoke Bison suffered a rare defeat on home ice in the National League.
A rollercoaster first period concluded with Cats holding a one-goal advantage.
Bison opened the scoring after 11 minutes through Adam Harding, but bizarrely equalised just four minutes later after goals for Chris Jones and Tomasz Malazinski in the space of 30 seconds reversed the visitors’ one-goal deficit into a lead.
Nell’s powerplay goal in the 18th minute put Wildcats ahead by the break, and they never looked back from there.
Loris Taylor bagged the visitors’ fourth on the half-hour mark.
And while Harding confirmed his brace two minutes later, that was all the joy Bison had as Edgars Bebris scored late on to confirm Cats’ sixth successive National League win.
Nell said: “I’m very happy to win, Basingstoke is always a tough place to come to.
“It was a really good game, especially in the first period. We closed the game out well in the third to pick up two points.
“It was fun to be part of – four of the first period’s five goals were good, that 20-minute phase of the game had everything.
“We’re happy we ended up being on the right side of the result.
“Basingstoke worked hard and took us to the end, Edgars’ goal at the end was important.”
Wildcats return to action next weekend when hosting London Raiders on Saturday night before they travel to MK Lightning on Sunday.
