The Bespoke Guardians Swindon Wildcats are delighted to confirm that Sam Godfrey has put pen to paper to return to the Wildcats blue-line for the upcoming NIHL National Season.

The 27-year-old defenceman is a Swindon local having started his career in the Swindon Junior Academy before moving over to North America for a couple of seasons. When he moved back to the UK he spend two years in the Slough Jets system working head coaches Doug Sheppard and Slava Koulikov.

He returned to the Wildcats for a single season 2013-14 before Paul Dixon and the Guildford Flames came calling in the summer of 2014. Godders spent 3 and a bit seasons with the Flames as they rounded out their time in the EPL. During that time, he won the EPL Cup & Playoffs in the 15-16 season.

Midway through the 17/18 campaign he made his return to Swindon where he’s stayed put ever since. His time in Swindon has seen him further develop his game into a solid D man for Head Coach Aaron Nell, and he was thrilled to have him back in his team for the new season.

I’m delighted to have Sam back for upcoming season. He’s always been a talented player and since coming back to us from Guildford it was clear to see how much he’d grown as a player. He’s big and he uses his size well but is also reliable in our own zone.

I think his game has really improved since coming back here and he’s a big part of our team now. I’m looking forward to seeing him develop again this year. He’s come through the academy here and playing in Swindon means a lot to him. He’s tough to play against and that is his biggest strength.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Sam himself added:

We’ve built something great here in Swindon over the last few years and I’m looking forward to building on that. It’s fun to play here and we have a great locker-room of guys.

I’m really happy to be back for the new season, and as much fun as the Spring Cup was, I’m excited to hopefully play in front of the fans again.

Lucy Norbury will sponsor Sam Godfrey for another year.
