CHRIS Jones struck with eight minutes to play as Swindon Wildcats completed another perfect weekend in NIHL South One on Sunday night following a 3-2 success at Peterborough Phantoms.

Jones’ late intervention saw the Cats follow up their 3-0 win at home to Bracknell Bees 24 hours earlier, with Aaron Nell’s side making it 10 league victories in succession overall.

Will Weldon gave Peterborough an early lead at Planet Ice, but Edgars Bebris replied to ensure the first period ended all-square.

Jones then got the only goal of the second session to give Swindon a narrow advantage, but parity was restored inside three minutes of the final period when Phantoms struck through Petr Stepanek.

However, it was the Cats who raised their game for a big finish and Jones netted his second goal of the night to extended Swindon’s winning run in the league.

Head Coach Aaron Nell was thrilled when speaking to the Wildcats media late on Sunday evening:

“The players were fantastic this weekend, could not be any prouder of them and we definitely deserved the four-points. I think the key was how much they wanted it this weekend; you had people like Hoogy blocking shots from Stepanek and the whole group were fully focused.

Renny was fantastic all weekend but it was everyone, we all bought in and it is going to be a pretty happy bus home. Chris Jones has been superb since Christmas; he got four huge goals this weekend. When players like him are playing at their best, we are a very tough team to beat. Eddie also got two huge goals this weekend; they are both huge parts of our team.

Basingstoke next weekend will not be easy, we have had a lot of tough games recently and these next two will be right up there. We are in a good run, we have won ten league games in a row and we just need to go in and take it a game at a time. We are thrilled to be where we are right now.”
