The Swindon Wildcats completed their second weekend of the streaming series with once again mixed results.

Saturday evening saw the Cats come back from 4-2 down before sealing a 5-4 victory against the MK Lightning, however, on Sunday the Sheffield Steeldogs secured a big 7-5 victory at the Better Link Center.

Two goals apiece from Tomasz Malasinski and captain Sam Bullas as well as a first goal for the club from Balint Pakozdi was enough to secure victory on Saturday night in Milton Keynes. Initially, the Lightning took the lead through Bobby Chamberlain, however, only 4 minutes after opening the scoring, Balint Pakozdi was able to follow up a drive to the net and fire in his first goal in the red #3 jersey.

In the second period, the Lightning scored two quick goals in around 90 seconds when Russ Cowley and Robin Kovar extended their lead to 3-1. However, another close net scramble at 34:33 when Sam Bullas bundled home his first goal of the night. Before the second period came to a close MK had restored their two-goal lead when Tomas Kana found the back of the net at 37:27.

The third period would prove to be the comeback period for the visitors. Within the opening three minutes of the third stanza, the game was level. Firstly, Tomasz Malasinski was on hand to pick up the loose puck after a turnover in front of the goal and fire the puck home before Sam Bullas tied the game up at 42:43.

With the game tied at 4-4 the game ebbed and flowed until 52:38 when the Cats capitalised on the powerplay through that man Tomasz Malasinski again, with the assists going to Aaron Nell and Chris Jones.

Sunday evening wouldn’t prove to be so fruitful for the Wildcats with Sheffield taking the win thanks to two goals from Alex Graham.

At the end of the first break, Swindon found themselves two goals down in a 3-1 deficit. Alex Graham with two and James Spurr scored the opening goals for the Dogs whilst Chris Jones got his first of the season as well. In the middle period, the Cats had reduced the gap to a single goal thanks to two goals for Toms Rutkis, Sheffield did manage to get one in the middle period thanks to a Ben O’Connor shorthanded goal.

The final period of the streaming series for Swindon would be one to forget with Sheffield scoring three unanswered goals through Ben Lake, Jason Hewitt, and Tom Relf to extend their advantage to a four-goal gap. In the last five minutes of the game, the Cats scored two goals through Balint Pakozdi and Chris Jones but it was too little too late to stop the Dogs from taking the win.

Once again, hockey proved to be the winner as another weekend of positive streaming figures saw more than 2000 streams over the course of the two games were sold. Next weekend sees the Steeldogs take on the Lightning in the final weekend of the NIHL Streaming Series.
