Tonight’s one to watch is a veteran of the British hockey scene and someone who has been successful wherever he has been and over many years, Scott McKenzie is back once more with the Telford Tigers.

The Scotsman was born in Dunfermline but made his way through Chelmsford’s junior system and debuted for their senior team during the 2003-04 season. During the early stages of his career McKenzie bounced around a few teams, he played for Slough, Romford and Chelmsford in the EPL and he put up points at all of these clubs. It was this form that earned him his first season in the Elite League with the Edinburgh Capitals and despite modest success as a Brit in the heavily import league it was the following season in 2010 that he made his first trip to Telford.

McKenzie was part of the Tigers for the Red Hockey era and won many trophies with Telford during this period, this was his most successful time as a player. Following this he made the choice to venture into coaching and McKenzie spent the next 3 seasons in player-coach roles with Widnes Wild for the first year and then the Deeside Dragons after that.

After his brief stint in coaching McKenzie has returned to the Tigers and this year will be his 4th consecutive year with this Telford team and even though he’s now the wrong side of 30 he is still putting up numbers and is one of the best players in the NIHL. During the last completed season he managed 72 points in only 45 games so the Wildcats defenceman will certainly have their hands full tonight.
