Swindon Wildcats in the Community is proud to be supporting and delivering multiple sessions on the Swindon Borough Council Healthy Families programme throughout the year. The Healthy Families programme is a family weight management service designed to help parents and children lead healthier lifestyles.

The experienced team from Swindon Council run the scheme which is offered free to families with children aged five to 16 years old with a high BMI and no restricting medical conditions. There are two age-specific programmes, one for juniors aged between five and 11, and one for seniors aged between 11 and 16 years old.

Community development office Dave Ridley, said “We are delighted to be involved in this scheme and are proud that we were asked to support the delivery, it’s a key part of what we do to get many people participating in activity and to provide opportunity.

“We attended the first session last night (11th November) with Wildcat Tyler Plews and community coaches to host two ball hockey sessions to the children and their families which were really successful, everyone there was excited to see a Swindon Wildcats player and to get the chance to play ball hockey with Tyler was inspiring for many.

“To help inspire the family to get more involved in an active lifestyle we have provided all the participants with free tickets to a Swindon Wildcats game and discounted tickets for their parents, we also gave information about how they can get involved in our learn to play ice hockey sessions.”.

Councillor Brian Ford, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Health, said on the Council website that: “I’m really pleased that this programme is available to help families in Swindon.

“We’re committed to encouraging people to lead healthy lifestyles and look after their wellbeing, and this useful programme is one of many ways in which we are helping residents to do this.”
