Swindon Wildcats are thrilled to announce the next member of the 2019-20 team will be a familiar face as Stevie Whitfield has signed a new two-year deal.

The deal means Stevie will be staying around in Swindon until the end of the 20-21 season and will see him complete his 9th and 10th season with the Cats. At the end of his tenth season, we are delighted to confirm Stevie will be awarded atestimonial game to celebrate his decade of service with the Wildcats.

Speaking to swindonwildcats.com Stevie said I’m really happy to be signing for a further two years in Swindon. I’m looking forward to the challenge of the new national league and hopefully helping to build on the success of the last two years.’

‘It is an honour to be able to sign a contract to take me to ten years with my home town team and I’m thankful to have a testimonial game to celebrate this.

I’m enjoying a bit of time off now but can’t wait to get back on the Link Centre ice in September in front of our amazing supporters.’ He added.

Stevie graduated from the academy in 2008 and split his time between the ENL2 Wildcats and the senior team before making the jump to seniors fully in the 2011-12 season. Since then he has been a key member of the Wildcats D Corp under coaches Ryan Aldridge, Stevie Lyle and Aaron Nell.

With 464 appearances to his name, Stevie is just 36 games short of his 500th for the Club and at the age of 28, he has time to make many more past that.

Head Coach Aaron Nell was quick to praise the impact Stevie has had since he made the full step up in 2011.

We are delighted that Stevie had decided to extend his time here by another two seasons. Stevie is a local guy who came through the academy and is a real fan favourite here. He has worked extremely hard to get where he is today, and he keeps on improving year on year.

Stevie is a vital part of the team and is a great person to have around the locker-room I am thrilled he will be part of my defence again for the new national league.

We are proud to, not only see him return for another two years, but also complete ten years’ service with the club. He will be getting a testimonial in a couple of years’ time and when the date comes around it will be brilliant to celebrate his time in Swindon much like we did on Saturday for Bully”
