It was the perfect start to the NIHL season with a 4-point weekend for your Swindon Wildcats as they defeated the Hull Seahawks and the Sheffield Steeldogs.

On Saturday night the Wildcats beat a weakened Seahawks side 12-0 at the Link Centre, They then secured the 4-point weekend with a 3-0 win against the Steeldogs on Sunday night in Sheffield.

It was a special weekend for our player-coach Aaron Nell who scored his 1000th point for the Wildcats.

Big shoutout to Renny Marr and Dean Skinns with back-to-back shutouts this weekend, some big saves by the goalie duo!

Wildcats Vs Seahawks Saturday Night Match Report:

It took the Wildcats just over 14 minutes to break the deadlock with 16 year-old Jamie Smith hitting the back of the net.

Just 37 seconds later the puck dropped to Floyd Taylor who slapped the puck straight through Warburton’s legs to make it 2-0.

The Wildcats then made it 3-0 through Chris Jones who first timed a rebounded puck past Warburton.

Heading into the second period the Wildcats made it 4-0 with Reed Sayers flicking the puck into the net.

Tomasz Malasinski then got on the board as he scrapped the puck past the line to make it five

Balint Pakozdi then topped off the period with a goal of his own to extend the lead to six.

Just over a minute into the third period Colby Tower got on the scoresheet as his first timed the puck into the net.

The Wildcats then got a shorthanded goal with Edgars Bebris racing away and flicking the puck into the bottom corner.

Malasinski then got his second of the game with a lovely finish to make it nine.

The Wildcats then got another shorthanded goal with Jones racing free and putting the puck through Warburton’s legs.

Jack Goodchild then scored back to back goals as he got sent through 1 on 1 and Calmly slotted the puck into the net.

Wildcats Vs Steeldogs Sunday night match report:

The Wildcats did very well in the first period pushing the Dogs back and creating many chances on net but Zimozdra stood strong.

End of the first period: Wildcats 0-0 Steeldogs

The second period was a big test for the Cats as they killed off many power plays with Marr making some excellent saves to deny the Steeldogs a goal.

The first goal of the game didn’t come until the 39th minute with Jones throwing the puck at net and Malasinski tapping in the rebound.

End of the 2nd period: Wildcats 1-0 Steeldogs

The Wildcats then got some joy on the powerplay with Jones grabbing his first of the night as his jabbed the puck past Zimozdra extending the lead to two.

With more powerplay chances the Wildcats took advantage with Jones grabbing another one as he received a lovely disguised pass from Malasinski and slotted the puck into the net.
