The Swindon Wildcats continued their impressive run of form with a perfect four-point weekend, securing victories over Solway IHC and Peterborough Phantoms to make it four wins in a row.

Saturday night saw the Wildcats return to the Better Link Centre in front of their biggest home crowd of the season, with 1,399 fans in attendance as Aaron Nell’s side claimed a 5-3 victory over Solway.

It was a special evening as the number 89 jersey was retired and revealed in the rafter for Tomasz Malasinski.

The Wildcats wasted little time getting going, with Sean Richards opening the scoring after just 28 seconds before Matt Vermaeten doubled the advantage at 1:11.

Solway responded through Alex Johnston on the powerplay before Jonathan Yantsis struck late in the opening period to bring the visitors level at 2-2. Yantsis then scored his second of the night early in the middle period to put Solway ahead.

Swindon responded strongly. Dylan Lipsey levelled proceedings at 29:30 before Ryan Wells restored the Wildcats’ advantage on the powerplay. Liam Fraser then made it 5-3 before the end of the second period, and the Cats held firm throughout the final 20 minutes to secure their third consecutive victory.

Less than 24 hours later, the Wildcats travelled to Planet Ice Peterborough looking to complete the four-point weekend against the Phantoms.

Once again, Swindon started quickly. Glenn Billing opened the scoring on the powerplay before Ryan Wells added another powerplay goal to make it 2-0.

Mason Lipsey extended the Cats lead to three but Peterborough hit back in the second period through Dillon Lawrence and then Janne Laakkonen then struck twice for the Phantoms, including a powerplay effort, to make it 3-3 early in the third.

But the Wildcats took control when it mattered most. Glenn Billing grabbed his second of the night to put Swindon back ahead before Matt Vermaeten converted on the powerplay to make it 5-3. Liam Fraser then wrapped up an impressive 6-3 road victory with just under three minutes remaining.

It was another standout weekend for Fraser, who recorded four points across the two games and now sits as the joint-leading points scorer in the NIHL National with 15 points.

Two wins, four points and four consecutive victories sees the Wildcats’ momentum continue to build after another excellent weekend of National League action.
