The Bespoke Guardians Swindon Wildcats are delighted to confirm that Sam Godfrey has put pen to paper on a contract extension which will see him remain in Swindon for another 12 months. The British defenceman has become a crucial part of the team since his return to the Wildcats in 2017.

Having come through the junior ranks in Swindon, Sam moved to North America before returning to the UK with the Slough Jets. After two years with them, and then one with the Wildcats, Sam moved to Guildford where he spent three seasons in the then EPL, taking home the Cup and Playoff double in 2016.

Since returning to the Wildcats, he’s added a further four trophies to his cabinet and will be looking to extend this number in the forthcoming season.

Head Coach Aaron Nell said:

I’m pleased to have Godders back on the team for another year. He’s a physical defenceman who takes pride in the defensive side of the game. As a D core we tried to change how we played a little last year and I think this benefitted Godders by adding a little more offense to his game. He’s been around the game a long time now, but he’s still only just 29 and will continue to grow for another year.

Sam himself added:

I’m really happy to be back in Swindon for another year. Aaron is building a really competitive roster and it’s exciting to be a part of that.

We know last year we underachieved at times and the focus for this year is to improve our consistency night after night. I’m looking forward to getting back in the locker room with the boys and being back on the ice in front of the fans.
