Christmas has come early for the Swindon Wildcats with the announcement that star netminder Renny Marr has renewed his contract to the end of the 2019/2020 season.

Renny, who originally joined from the Coventry Blaze back in the summer of 2017, led the team to double cup success in the 17/18 season and is already becoming a crucial part of the title challenging side of 18/19.

Earlier in the season he set one of the longest shutout streaks the Wildcats have ever seen with shutouts against the Invicta Dynamos and the London Raiders. As we approach the festive season his performances have continued to be as important and exciting as they were when he first stepped foot on the Swindon ice.

Speaking after the news was confirmed Head Coach Aaron Nell was undoubtedly thrilled to have secured the serviced of one of the country’s most exciting netminding talents.

“I’m over the moon Renny has decided to renew his deal with us already for the 19/20 season. He’s is a vital part of the club and continues to improve night on night, he’s only young and he’ll only continue to get better.

Renny gives us a chance to win every night and he’s one of the best netminders in the NIHL right now. He’s happy in Swindon and we are delighted he’s going to be staying around a bit longer.

We always have one eye on recruitment and planning for the next season, it shows great commitment from Renny to re-sign at this time of the year and we’re pleased to be able to offer him that deal.”

Stay tuned in the coming days to hear from Renny himself on the decision to extend his stay in Swindon to a third year.
