Swindon Wildcats are thrilled to announce the return of Welsh forward Chris Jones to the roster for the forthcoming NIHL campaign.

Chris Jones who will again be sponsored by Corvus Travel, joined the Wildcats last year from the Cardiff Devils in the EIHL. Arriving in Swindon he helped contribute to the success in both the Autumn Cup and the National Cup wins last season, securing the cup winning goal as we beat the Sheffield Steeldogs in mid-April.

Throughout the 17/18 campaign Chris contributed heavily to the offence by scoring 30 goals and 46 assists for a total of 76 points over the course of the season.

Aaron Nell was delighted to have re-signed such a valuable part of the Wildcats offence for another season ‘Its a huge addition to have Chris back on our roster for another season. He was very important to our team last season and played a significant part in all situations. He gives us a real boost offensively and was excellent on both special teams last season especially the Powerplay.

It was hugely important to get Chris back for this season, he’s one of the premier British players in the league last season and a player I’m sure all teams would love to have! He’s a player that will be relied on even more next season and I know he’s relishing the chance to have another great season.

Chris is the type of player we want in Swindon he’s a great person, skates extremely well, is responsible and can play in all situations. He’s the type of Centre I like to have playing on my top 2 lines and I believe we are going to be very strong in that position next season!

Speaking after confirming his return, Chris said:

“It’s great to be coming back to Swindon for the coming season, I’m excited to be back in Swindon and to get back together with the guys and improve on our successes of last season.

We may not have had the best of starts last year but we finished strongly and it was awesome to come away with two trophies under our belts. We have a good group of lads and with a couple of little tweaks we can be competing for all trophies again next year.

We have some good players signed and the roster Aaron is putting together is looking really good. With most of the team returning hopefully we’ll all gel quite quickly which will get us off to a good start and a great position for the rest of the year!

The goal for the team next year is to compete for every trophy and as a group we feel there is some unfinished business. I know we will all be hungry for more silverware and competing for everything we can.”.
