The Bespoke Guardians Swindon Wildcats are thrilled to confirm that Gael Lubwele has joined the club from the Basingstoke Bison.

Gael, another new face to the team, joins the likes of Reece Kelly, Glenn Billing and Josh Shaw in Swindon for the new season.

The move to bring Gael to Swindon also sees him reunite with long time Nipissing University team-mate Colby Tower at the Wildcats for the new season.

Last season was his first year in the UK with the Bison where in 54 games he posted 76 points (36 goals and 40 assists). Before then he averaged 0.70 points per game with Nipissing putting up 46 points in his 66 games in USports.

The 27-year-old forward becomes the third import on the roster with Colby Tower and Tomasz Malasinski both returning to the club following very successful seasons last time out.

Head Coach Aaron Nell was thrilled to have secured Gael’s signature:

Gael is someone that we targeted very early in the summer. He plays with a lot of passion and has a great shot his strengths are something that we missed last season and we thought it was important to use our third import slot to fill gaps we were missing. Gael was one of the most dominant players we played against last season, and we are looking forward to having him on our roster.

In Basingstoke last year he was their go to guy, and I think he’ll thrive having some extra support around him this season. We’ve got a deep forward line this year and our players will be able to play up and down the line-up depending on different situations. I’m sure everyone in Swindon will give him a big Wildcats welcome.

Similarly, Gael himself said:

I’m very happy to join the team this year. Last year was awesome and I loved playing in the league last year. Moving to Swindon is something which will be exciting, playing at the Link Centre last year was fun and I’m excited to do it again this year.

I’ve started to get back on the ice and I’m just looking forward to getting going. I’m a very passionate player and I’ll be bringing the physical game as well. I’m excited to meet everyone and playing with Colby again will be something I’m also excited about.

Gael will this year be sponsored by Michelle & Martin MacClay, who are entering their first year sponsoring the team so we look forward to working with them as well.
