Swindon Wildcats were boosted with the news earlier this summer that one of their key players, Edgars Bebris, will not only be returning for the new campaign but had put pen to paper on a two-year-deal keeping him in Swindon.

With today being his 27th Birthday, Wildcats Press Officer Ben Callaghan took the opportunity to catch up with the birthday boy as the 18/19 season draws ever closer:

SW: Eddie, the season is almost upon us, how are your preparations going for the new campaign?

EB: “I’ve been skating already for four or so weeks now, the first couple of sessions were a bit rusty but every session is getting better! It’s been good to skate with some of the boys from last year too, we are all counting the days down now until we can get back out on the ice properly in pre-season.

Bracknell, one of the most changed teams of the summer, what do you expect from them in pre-season?

They have a good team and it will be interesting to see how they play on the ice. They have signed a lot of players from places like Basingstoke but all we can do is worry about ourselves. I do think we have a stronger team, but it means nothing if we don’t perform on the day. We must start well.

What do you make of the roster that Aaron has put together?

Aaron has put together a good roster, the signings have all been positive. We had a great locker-room last year and it is important we have that again this year. I’m sure all the new boys will settle in well and I’m looking forward to meeting the ones I don’t know.

How important will it be to have so many guys back from the double winning team?

It is vital for us to hit the ground running and as I’ve said, the atmosphere was great last year and hopefully it will be again this year.

Autumn Cup and National Cup wins last year, does the focus switch to league and playoffs this year?

Definitely, we want to win everything we possibly can. We are all doing our best to get ready in the gym for the last few weeks of summer. The pre-season training sessions will be here soon enough, and we must make sure everything we do is focused on the success we want to achieve this year!

We’d like to thank Edgars for taking the time to talk to us, in what will be the first of a few player interviews being posted as we gear up for the Launch Day on Sunday 26th August at the Better Link Centre.
