On Friday night the Cats travelled to Milton Keynes for their first match of the weekend against the Lightning, despite a valiant effort, they fell to a narrow 5-3 defeat to Tim Wallace’s team.

The Cats got off to the perfect start when Gael Lubwele opened the scoring after just 67 seconds, however the lead would only last for 17 seconds before Corey McEwen levelled the game up at 1-1. This would prove to be the only goals of the opening period.

In the middle period the Cats once again took the lead, this time through Colby Tower on the powerplay. However the hosts levelled the game up at 2-2 through Ross Venus. In the final moments of the second period, the Lightning took the lead for the first time in the game through Mack Stewart.

At the beginning of the third period, Mack Stewart added his second goal of the evening in the early moments of the final stanza. The Wildcats reduced the deficit to a single goal through Russ Cowley with just under 13 minutes to play. However, as the Cats threw everything at the Lightning, Jordan Hedley stood tall and Tim Wallace added the 5th goal with an Empty Net strike in the last minute of the game.

The MOM for the game went to Tomasz Malasinski, who secured his third MOM in a row.
