SWINDON Wildcats extended their winning run in NIHL South One to a 14th game with a 4-1 success away at Streatham on Sunday night.

Aaron Nell’s side moved a step closer to finishing the regular season at the top of the table by wrapping up another perfect weekend in London.

Goals from Sam Bullas and Floyd Taylor put the Wildcats in control in the first period, although the home side got the only goal of the second through Adam Carr.

Swindon were able to push their lead back up to two goals in the final session as Sam Jones hit the back of the net and Loris Taylor finally made the points safe with the visitors’ fourth of the night in the closing stages.

Speaking after securing the win Head Coach Aaron Nell said:

“I thought Streatham were excellent tonight, but Renny was outstanding again and kept in the game for the first two periods. In the third period, I thought we were better but we definitely had Renny to thank for the win tonight.

Streatham took some penalties in the third and I think it helped us control the puck to get the pressure off, but also it allowed us to get a bit of rest too. We had some injuries and some illness in the squad today so we were short. You could see in the first couple of period it affected us as we were not at our best but we knuckled down and got the win, which is important.

The team all played hard, when you have a goalie like the one we have you can sometimes end up leaning on him a lot but Renny has a bright future ahead of him, and we are incredibly lucky to have him in Swindon.

Having the extra day to recover and prepare for the game with Basingstoke could help us. Hopefully we’ll have almost all the guys back for next week, including myself, but the next two weeks we have just the one home game each weekend and we have to make sure we are ready for them.

We’ve been taking it a game at a time and we have a whole week where we can now focus on Basingstoke and we have to be ready to go again on Sunday.

14 wins in a row is fantastic, the players should really be proud of themselves for the effort they’ve put in. We are in a great spot compared to where we were after Christmas, we just have to continue to work hard to finish the job off.”
