After a chaotic week off the ice, the Wildcats travelled north to Yorkshire to take on the Hull Seahawks in our first competitive game of 23/24.

The opening period saw the Cats extend a 0-2 lead through goals from Reed Sayers and a Gael Lubwele powerplay strike. However, right at the end of the period, Finlay Ulrick added the first goal of the evening for the hosts as the first period ended 1-2 in favour of Swindon.

The middle period was one where the Seahawks took control by outshooting the Cats 20-5. However they did only score the one goal through Lee Bonner early in the period.

The third period started 2-2 and it would be Hull who went ahead for the first time in the contest when former Wildcat Emil Svec beat Renny Marr to make it 3-2. With less than 2 minutes to play, Renny Marr headed to the bench and the Cats were able to tie the game up with the extra player. Tomasz Malasinski scoring the third goal sending the game to overtime.

With no goals in overtime, the penalty shootout only saw one goal which unfortunately came off the stick of Emil Svec so Hull secured the bonus point.

The Wildcats can be proud of their efforts and returning to Swindon with a point after what happened last week will be seen as a success!

MOM for the evening was #30 Renny Marr
