Tonight’s one to watch is a veteran British defenceman who has been an ever present on the Steeldogs blueline for many years and has always made life difficult for the opposing forwards each and every night.

Born in Sheffield Morgan came up through the cities much vaunted junior system and he made his senior debut with the Sheffield Scimitars in the ENL at 18 years old, it was not long before he was a regular presence on the blueline with the Scimitars after they stepped up to the EPL in 2005. The leadership qualities possessed by Morgan were evident from an early age and in his second full season with the Scimitars he was rewarded with the ‘A’ on his shirt.

What followed was two more seasons with the Scimitars in the EPL and in the second of those seasons he was given the ‘C’ at just 21 years old. He had established himself as one of the top British defencemen in the entire league and this earned him a call up to the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite League the following year. This turned out to be his only season in the countries top league, he played the full 56 game season and came away with 10 assists.

The following year Morgan decided to step back down to the EPL and this would be his only season spent away from Sheffield, he laced them up for the Manchester Phoenix for a solitary season but he subsequently returned back over the Pennines to Sheffield for every season since.

Morgan has stayed with the Steeldogs organisation through all the turmoil caused by the EPL’s collapse and ensuing entry into the NIHL structure. The Dogs were one of the sides that showed they were too good for the existing structure and they worked with the rest of the sides to form the NIHL National. All throughout this Morgan has been a vital member of the team and has consistently scored well for a defenceman while providing more than solid work in his own end as well.

Tonight, the Wildcats forwards will need to be at their best to beat him and get through with their attempts on goal if the team are to stand any chance of emerging victorious.
