Tonight’s player to keep an eye out for playing for our very own Swindon Wildcats has very quickly established himself as a fan favourite at the Link Centre in the short time he has been here, I’m of course speaking about Emil Svec.

Born in Milevsko in the Czech Republic Svec began his junior career with his home town team before moving onto Ceske Budejovice who he represented at all the junior levels from U-16 all the way through to U-20s, while here he also played for the Czech U-19 team.

Moving into senior hockey he initially made his debut for Motor Ceske Budejovice in the Czech second tier but after this he moved over to neighbouring Slovakia where he played for 3 seasons in the top Slovak league with MsHK Zilina. During his 3 seasons at this level Svec played a total of 92 games and during these games he scored only 17 points, but this was not to be indicative of his offensive capabilities in the future.

Following this stint in Slovakia he moved to Poland and played for 3 seasons in the top league there. During his 3 years Svec played in 122 games where he scored 44 goals and assisted on a further 52 goals for a total of 96 points. A very decent return based on the standard of the league and the performances put up by our very own Tomasz Malasinski which were very similar in numbers.

It was after this that our own head coach, Aaron Nell, approached Emil and convinced him to join the Wildcats for this season and so far he’s proved to be a superb signing; scoring 34 points, including 25 goals, in only 21 games this year.
