This weekend the NIHL Playoffs get underway as the Wildcats play host to the Phantoms. If you’re new to hockey in the UK, or even playoffs with the Wildcats then here’s a quick checklist of things you need to know before we take to the ice tomorrow

It’s More Intense

You may have thought normal hockey was fast-paced and action-packed, but you’ve not seen games where teams leave it all on the ice in what could be elimination games. Trust us, you’ll be entertained.

Playoff Beards

Please don’t be alarmed if your favourite players look differently from this weekend, they may not have shaved their beards. It’s a superstition thing, if you followed out Instagram story last night, then you’ll have seen Balint Pakozdi’s attempt!

The Stanley Cup

The greatest trophy in hockey, period. Okay so we don’t play for the prestigious cup, but that’s the one the pros want to win and you can bet if you ask any of the boys they’ll want to win the final in Coventry.

Coventry Weekend

We know you’ve got your tickets for the best weekend of the National League but the road to that weekend starts now. Think of it as a month-long festival of hockey, we’ll bring the energy on the ice, we’ll just need the fans to bring it in the stands!

3 Games to go

So yeah, we want hockey to go on all year round but there’s no beating around the bush here. We’ve only got 3 games left at the Link Centre in the 21-22 season. Yeah summer is nearly here but why not push it back just 3 weeks, playoff hockey is worth it, we promise!

So there we have it, just a few reasons why you need to clear your diaries, buy some tickets and bring some friends to the Link Centre this weekend…. And easter weekend…. And the weekend after that!
