The Swindon Wildcats fell to a 7-3 loss in the play off Semi-final against the Leeds Knights

The scoreline definitely didn’t reflect on the game with Wildcats dominating in stages of the game but the Knights were just too clinical.

Stevie Whitfield and Russ Cowley also iced their final game for the team and have been great servants to the club with Whitfield spending 15 seasons in the Swindon Wildcats men’s team

Captain Sam Bullas also led by example with two big goals in the game.

Match Report:

The Knights started fast and Matt Barron managed to scrap the puck past Marr just under three minutes into the game.

The Knights then doubled their lead at 8:03, this time Howlett racing away on the counter and firing the puck top corner.

It was then three just 51 seconds later with Witkowski ripping one into the top corner with no chance for Marr.

Brown then made it four on the powerplay as he fired the puck through bodies at 9:58.

After some good pressure the Wildcats did get their goal with Bullas finding the lose puck and slotting it past Gospel at 11:51.

With just under three minutes left of the period it was Bullas again who reduced the Knights lead to two as he received a pass from Malasinski and fired the puck into the top corner.

End of the first period: Wildcats 2-4 Knights

Then came a huge moment in the game, Cowley dragged the puck past Gospel and backhanded it towards the net and somehow Gospel did the splits and hit the puck away with his toe!

Brown then scored his second goal of the game on the powerplay as he raced into the zone and rocketed a shot into the top corner, again no chance for Marr.

It was then six for the Knights with Barron on a two on one breakaway and fired the puck through Marr at 37:31

End of the second period: Wildcats 2-6 Knights

After a solid start to the period for the Wildcats they got rewarded as Tower raced away and backhanded it past Gosepl to reduce the deficit to three.

The Wildcats threw everything at it and pulled the goalie for the extra skater but the Knights defended well and Howlett scored the empty net goal to wrap the game up.

End of the game: Wildcats 3-7 Knights

Thank you to all the Wildcats fans who came and supported the boys this weekend in Coventry, after what has been a very tough season with the rink and being on the road for the first half of the season, but we managed to stick with it and have a good season.
